Forest Park's Great Balloon Race

Yesterday, we went down to Forest Park for the annual Balloon Race.  We had never been before.  The weather was perfect.  We had a bit of rain on the drive downtown.  However, didn't experience any while down there.  We met up with our friends the Pickert's.  They are kind of our go-to couple for family type things like these.  They have little girls and their youngest is only two months older than Melanie.  We had fun walking around and checking out the things they had at this balloon fair.  After the balloon race we headed to the Boathouse for a few drinks and appetizers.  Then we went to Fenton Park to let Whitney run around.  And finally, we went back to the Pickert's for a campfire, roasted marshmallows, and mario party.  All in all a fun fall day!

Whitney with a tortoise that is supposedly a local story.  I guess this tortoise got loose from a store in Chesterfield and was found a decent distance away.  I guess it was newsworthy...

Some of the balloons being blown up.  We didn't stick around for them taking off.  We had already been there for a few hours.  Supposedly, the energizer bunny balloon takes off first and then the other "hound" ballons pursue 15 minutes later.  The balloon that drops a bag of birdseed closest to the bunny balloon wins the race.

At Fenton Park later in the day.
