Luke One Month

Yesterday, Luke turned one month old.

He is one incredible little baby.  And we love him so very much.  I remember wondering what things would be like becoming a family of four.  What that love would transform into and become.  And all I can say is that there is no less love for anyone person.  It wasn't something that needed to be divided up.  I love both of my children and my husband with all of my heart.  There is so much love to go around!  It's incredible how your heart just grows that much bigger!
We are all quickly learning how to adjust to our new environment.  Melanie being the one that has had to adjust the most.  Although, I honestly think she gets more attention now that her brother is here than before.  Before she was so independent that when you tried to play with her she pretty much ignored you.  Now that her brother is here she is wanting a little more attention and TLC.  And we are happy to give it to her.  One of the funny things Jarod and I have had to learn about is the risks in changing a newborn boys diaper.  Even with trying new techniques and taking precautions.  We both have been peed on more times than we would care for.  It's one of those funny things you have to get used to.  And we both laugh at each other when one of us gets a pee bath.
In the month that we've spent with Luke, we are learning new things about him everyday.  And of course, as all babies do.  He is changing everyday.  Here are a few milestones, likes, and dislikes:

*Luke graduated from the NICU in record time.  He put the "wimpy white boy" NICU cliche to shame with a less than 48 hour stay.
*He is an all star nurser.  He latched on the first attempt and hasn't looked back ever since.  I am incredibly proud of this accomplishment!
*His first day of life he got nourishment through an IV.  The second day with formula supplements from a bottle as my milk had not come in yet.  And by the third day he was fully nursing, which is fantastic!
*He hates having his diaper changed more than any other child Jarod and I have seen.
*He loves to be warm.  And I mean really warm.  To the extent that he is sweaty hot.
*Luke loves to snuggle.  He will somehow always manage to snuggle his face in his blanket.  Which of course always worries his mother!
*Luke really fights his swaddle.  He doesn't like to be contained.
*He has been able to lift his head off of our shoulders from day one.
*He began wearing newborn outfits and newborn diapers.  Both of which he is still wearing.
*He likes to fall asleep against my shoulder after a feeding.
*He normally eats every two-three hours.  With some stretches of 3.5 hours in the middle of the night.
*Luke has not had a single bottle or drop of formula since the third day of his life.
*He can sometimes be a temperamental baby.  He has a fussy period every evening from about 6-10 p.m.
*Luke gets fussy in the car when it's not moving.  (His sister was the same way as a baby.)
*He unfortunately, has already had his first cold.  Luckily it hasn't been too bad so far.  Just a bit of congestion.
*He is a sweetie pie and one handsome little man!

We can't get enough of our little Lucas.  We are incredibly lucky, blessed, and honored to be his parents.  We are enjoying everyday with our little man and can't wait to see what the future has in store for him.
